Castle tour
We will explore the castle in more detail on a guided tour. Rothenfels Castle was founded around 1150 by Marquard II of Grumbach, and parts of the Romanesque castle complex have survived to this day. After changing hands several times and suffering damage during the German Peasants’ War and the Thirty Years’ War, the castle has belonged to the Quickbornfreunde e.V. association since 1919 and has been undergoing extensive restoration since 1970. Today, Rothenfels Castle is an educational and conference centre with a youth hostel and a popular destination for day trips.
Lecture
This year’s KnoBB is very much centred on the old stage fighters of the early 18th century. So what could be more fitting than a talk on the origins and history of these fighting men and women, who laid the foundations for the sport of boxing as we know it today? Heiko Große takes us on a journey into the world of ‘Stage Gladiators and Prizefighters’.
So, join us on a little journey back in time and hear the stories of James Figg, Donald McBane and other swashbuckling characters.
